Author name: Antonio (Maria) Fabres y Costa.
(1854, Barcelona - 1938, Roma). Spainish painter and sculptor. He studied at the Ecole de la Lonja in Barcelona. In 1875 he was retired to Rome, where he began to cultivate the watercolor under the influence of Mariano Fortuny, a technique which quickly achieved success by precious illustrations for books and magazines. He returned to Barcelona in 1886 and the following year won second prize at the National Exhibition of Fine Arts in watercolor by thieves. His celebrity was such that in 1904 he was called by the president of Mexico for the post of inspector general of Fine Arts, but at the end of his life, fame left him and returned to Rome in 1908.
