About author:
Author name: Alessandro Magnasco.
A. Magnasco (1667, Genoa, Italy -1749, Genoa, Italy) traveled to Milan in his adolescence. There, he worked for a Venetian painter and was employed by the grand duke of Florence in 1703. In this early period he specialized as a figurista, creating small human figures to be inserted in the landscapes and architectural settings of other painters. Six years later, he returned to Milan and reached great success painting figures for other artists’ landscapes. Magnasco’s return to Genoa marked the gradual end of his career, as the Genoese were not fond of his style. His output decreased and his health failed until his death in 1749.
